SUMMARY:Hudson Songwriters Spotlight
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Songwriters Spotlight on Saturday\, January 17 celebrating the depth\, diversity\, and heart of Hudson’s local songwriting community. Please note this is a matinee show: doors at 1pm\, show at 2pm. \nInspired by the classic Nashville-style song circle\, this intimate concert brings ten local songwriters together on stage. Five artists at a time will share the spotlight\, taking turns performing two original songs each. Some will play solo\, others may support one another — creating a collaborative\, in-the-round experience where the songs (and the stories behind them) take centre stage. \nAll of this edition’s featured songwriters are familiar faces from the Microbrasserie Cardinal Sunday Songwriting Circle and monthly All Originals Open Mic — community spaces where new songs are nurtured\, workshopped\, and shared. This event brings that creative energy into a listening-room setting\, offering audiences a rare chance to hear original music up close. \nHosted by Briana Doyle\, the evening features performances by: \n\nSeiji Gutierrez\nEric Joyal\nWill McGowan\nJason Fry\nSuzie Joseph\nAlan Hunt\nAyoub Drissi\nGerry Legault\nAndy Dahl\n\nExpect an evening that’s honest\, generous\, and rooted in community — a celebration of original music created and shared right here in Hudson.

SUMMARY:Vernissage: Mona Turner - Recent Works
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of an exhibition by Rigaud painter Mona Turner\, whose evocative paintings explore what it feels like to be within the landscape—not just observing it. Admission is free. \nLiving in a rural setting and spending time listening closely to the natural world\, Turner draws inspiration from the layered lives and energies that surround us: birds in motion\, everyday objects displaced from their usual contexts\, and moments that feel at once familiar and quietly mysterious. Her work invites us to slow down\, to notice\, and to reflect on how we inhabit our own environments. \nThrough figurative painting that sometimes blends elements of still life and landscape\, Turner creates scenes that hover between the recognizable and the implausible. This tension—between illusion and surface\, meaning and ambiguity—opens space for personal interpretation and contemplation. \nBorn in Métis Beach\, Québec\, Mona Turner studied graphic design at Dawson College and Studio Arts at Concordia University\, where she earned a BFA with distinction (1995). She exhibits regularly in the Montreal and Ottawa regions and has been actively involved in the local arts community\, including serving on the executive committees of Artistes Hudson Artists and the Hudson & Region Studio Tour. She is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists. \nAll are welcome. Come meet the artist\, enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the Hub\, and experience a body of work that offers a quiet meditation on presence\, perception\, and the beauty of the ephemeral.

It is honest\, moving\, and grounded in the voices of the artists who participated in the project. \nThis screening is offered free of charge\, with donations gratefully accepted at the door\, and is open to all members of the community. Whether you are familiar with Sultans of String’s music or encountering this project for the first time\, Walking Through the Fire offers a meaningful opportunity to engage with music as a bridge for dialogue and connection. \n🎶 Companion concert: Sultans of String (duo format) will perform live at the Hudson Creative Hub on Wednesday\, March 25\, 2026 as part of our 2026 Listening Room Series\, offering audiences a chance to experience their music in an intimate\, live setting. \nABOUT THE FILM \nWalking Through the Fire won “Best Musical Film” and “Best Soundtrack” at the Cannes World Film Festival. \n“The very fact that you’re doing this tells me that you believe in the validity of our language\, you believe in the validity of our art and our music and that you want to help to bring it out. And that’s really what’s important\, is for people to have faith that we can do this”- The Late Honourable Murray Sinclair\, Ojibwe Elder and former chair of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission. \nA central theme running through Walking Through The Fire is the need for the truth of Indigenous experience to be told before reconciliation can begin in earnest. Embedded in the title is the energy of rebirth: fire destroys\, but it also nourishes the soil to create new growth\, beauty\, and resiliency. Walking Through The Fire ensures that we emerge on the other side together\, stronger and more unified. \nSultans of String created this project in the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action\, and Final Report that asks for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to work together as an opportunity to show a path forward. Says bandleader Chris McKhool (whose grandfather was a stowaway from Lebanon at the turn of the last century)\, “We know that as a society we can’t move ahead without acknowledging and reflecting on the past. Before reconciliation can occur\, the full truth of the Indigenous experience in this country needs to be told\, so we’ve been calling on Indigenous artists to share with us their stories\, their experience\, and their lives\, so we settler Canadians can continue our learning about the history of genocide\, residential schools\, and of inter-generational impacts of colonization.” \n“The place that we have to start is with truth. Reconciliation will come sometime way in the future\, perhaps\, but right now\, truth is where we need to begin the journey with each other. As human beings\, we have to acquire that truth”- Dr. Duke Redbird – Chippewa/Anishinaabe Elder and poet \nPREVIOUS FILM AWARDS WON: Cannes World Film Festival Best\, Istanbul Film Festival\, Vancouver Independent Film Festival\, Lightbox International Film Festival\, Boston Independent Film Awards\, LA Independent Film Channel Festival\, Hollywood International Golden Age Festival\, Scarab Short Film Festival

DESCRIPTION:Photo Exhibition\nMost people would be surprised by the biodiversity found on the land protected by the Creek 53 Conservancy Trust. We drive along Main Road and catch glimpses of the fields and forest — but how much do we really know about the life thriving there? \nWith their cameras and a great deal of patience\, Creek 53 Resident Photographer Stéphane Hogue\, Resident Birder Wayne Grubert and their intrepid volunteers and researchers have caught nature in the act and they want to share their work with us. From wide open landscapes to tiny insect life\, they have captured the natural world of Creek 53 in all its diversity and intriguing beauty. \nThe exhibition opens on Sunday\, April 26 with a free public vernissage from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Hudson Creative Hub. Drop by to meet the photographers and chat with Creek 53 volunteers and Trustees. \nOur local biodiversity is worth celebrating and protecting. This volunteer organized exhibition is presented purely to raise awareness of our amazing local biodiversity and the importance of conserving it. Original framed or unframed photos and greeting cards will be available for purchase to support the Creek 53 Conservancy Trust. \nDon’t miss it this opportunity\, we’re excited to welcome you in great numbers!\nSunday\, April 26 | 2 pm \n \n

SUMMARY:Sandra Bouza - Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:An intimate evening of blues\, soul\, and storytelling | Friday\, May 8 \nSome artists entertain. Others stop you in your tracks. \nSandra Bouza is one of those rare voices that gets under your skin — the kind that quiets a room and holds it there. Rooted in folk storytelling and carried by a powerful blues-rock soul\, her songs are deeply human: raw\, honest\, and full of quiet fire. \nBouza’s voice moves effortlessly from smouldering restraint to full-bodied release\, drawing on the emotional depth of classic R&B and blues while remaining unmistakably her own. Critics have praised her command of the moment\, her emotional clarity\, and her ability to convey lived experience without artifice. This is music shaped by travel\, reflection\, resilience\, and hard-won self-knowledge. \n \nLive\, Sandra Bouza is magnetic. Whether backed by a groove or standing nearly alone with her guitar\, she invites listeners into songs that explore belonging\, recovery\, strength\, and transformation — not as abstract ideas\, but as stories you can feel in your bones. \nThis concert at the Hudson Creative Hub offers a rare chance to experience her in an intimate listening-room setting\, where every lyric lands and every nuance matters. If you love powerful voices\, great songwriting\, and performances that linger long after the last note fades\, this night is for you. \n🎟️ Tickets are limited. Early booking strongly recommended. \nPLUS:  Artist Workshop with Sandra Bouza \nEarlier in the day\, Sandra Bouza will also offer a powerful\, small-group pay-what-you-can workshop for performers and creatives: Taking Your Space: Authenticity & Personal Ownership in Performance \nDesigned for musicians\, singers\, dancers\, and storytellers\, this workshop explores how to release internalized expectations\, reconnect with your authentic voice\, and show up more fully in performance. \nWorkshop tickets sold separately. Spots are limited.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Poetry Portal - Writing Through the Senses with Kat Charles
DESCRIPTION:What is poetry\, really? What makes it enjoyable\, and how do you begin writing something you could call a poem? How can you use your sensory experiences to create poetry? \nThis workshop will explore different accessible ways to begin writing a poem by immersing participants into all of their senses. Our main tools will be our senses—our portals to self-expression and connection with others—which we will hone with short writing exercises. Participants will leave the workshop with new writing they can share with their loved ones and new tools to nurture a creative writing practice. \nThis workshop is offered in English. It is adaptable to the needs and abilities of all participants. Materials to awaken the senses will be provided\, but please feel free to bring your own writing or art-making supplies as well. Expect a workshop filled with new experiences\, playfulness\, joy and the power of creativity. Thanks to the generosity of the Quebec Writers’ Federation\, we are able to offer this workshop on a by-donation basis. \nAbout the facilitator \nKathleen Charles is a queer\, Haitian songstress and writer based in Tio’tia:ke (Montreal). Their practice is heavily informed by black feminist thought\, dystopian literature\, decolonisation\, and the liberatory nature of traditional Haitian music\, dance\, and spirituality. Charles has delivered performances for organizations such as Pride Montreal (2018)\, and Black Theatre Workshop (2021). They were also a part of three iterations of Afro Drag Montreal\, which made its world premiere at the UK pride film festival last year (2024).

SUMMARY:Jessica Rhaye with Preeper & MacKay
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, November 8 \nDoors: 7:00 PM | Show: 8:00 PM \nStep into an evening of rich harmonies\, heartfelt songwriting\, and timeless folk traditions. \nJessica Rhaye joins forces with Bill Preeper and Sandy MacKay—for a concert that blends Maritime roots with Appalachian soul. With a sound inspired by the folk revival of the 1960s\, this trio brings a fresh\, contemporary energy to classic traditions. \nTheir music is built on beautifully woven three-part harmonies\, shared lead vocals\, and a warm mix of acoustic and electric textures. Think echoes of Greenwich Village\, with influences ranging from Woody Guthrie to Ian Tyson and Bob Dylan—yet grounded in something distinctly their own. \n \nJessica Rhaye\, an acclaimed Canadian songwriter with over 25 years of touring and eight albums\, leads with clarity and warmth\, her high harmonies and shimmering guitar work anchoring the trio’s sound. Bill Preeper’s intricate fingerstyle guitar and deep vocal tones add texture and depth\, while Sandy MacKay’s multi-instrumental mastery—upright bass\, mandolin\, banjo—brings both rhythm and richness to the stage. \nTogether\, they create something intimate\, powerful\, and deeply human—a sound often compared to a modern-day Peter\, Paul & Mary. \nWhether you’re a lifelong folk fan or simply looking for a meaningful night of live music\, this is a concert that invites you to slow down\, listen closely\, and connect.
