SUMMARY:Sultans of String - Live In Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate evening with Sultans of String\, one of Canada’s most celebrated and boundary-crossing musical groups\, presented in a special trio format at the Hudson Creative Hub. \n\nWednesday\, March 25\nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\n\n \n  \nKnown for their dazzling musicianship and deep sense of musical connection\, Sultans of String blend elements of folk\, roots\, flamenco\, and global traditions into performances that are both virtuosic and deeply human. Their music tells stories — of place\, of collaboration\, and of the power of listening across cultures. \nThis show features: \n\nChris McKhool:  Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal recipient and multiple award winner Chris McKhool is the driving force behind BILLBOARD-charting Sultans of String. A virtuoso violinist and visionary collaborator\, he has performed and recorded with artists ranging from Béla Fleck to The Chieftains\, while creating powerful cross-cultural projects with Indigenous artists across Turtle Island.\nKevin Laliberté: Internationally acclaimed guitarist Kevin Laliberté blends flamenco fire\, Latin rhythms\, jazz sophistication\, and pop lyricism into a sound that is both virtuosic and deeply expressive.\nSaskia Tomkins: Multi-instrumentalist Saskia Tomkins is a master of violin\, viola\, cello\, and nyckelharpa — and is equally at home in classical\, jazz\, and Celtic traditions. An award-winning Irish fiddler and sought-after cultural consultant (including for Broadway’s Come From Away)\, Saskia brings authenticity\, depth\, and dazzling musicianship to every stage she graces.\n\nThis cabaret-style Listening Room concert offers a rare chance to experience the trio up close\, in a relaxed setting that invites attention\, conversation\, and shared experience. Expect an evening that is warm\, engaging\, and musically rich — equally compelling for longtime fans and those discovering the band for the first time. \nThis performance is part of the 2026 Listening Room Series at the Hudson Creative Hub\, which highlights exceptional artists in intimate\, audience-focused settings. \n🎬 Companion event: On Tuesday\, March 24\, 2026\, the Hub will also host a free screening of Walking Through the Fire\, Sultans of String’s powerful visual album and documentary project inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s call for greater collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists. The screening offers deeper context into the stories and relationships behind the music and is a meaningful complement to the live concert experience.

And that’s really what’s important\, is for people to have faith that we can do this”- The Late Honourable Murray Sinclair\, Ojibwe Elder and former chair of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission. \nA central theme running through Walking Through The Fire is the need for the truth of Indigenous experience to be told before reconciliation can begin in earnest. Embedded in the title is the energy of rebirth: fire destroys\, but it also nourishes the soil to create new growth\, beauty\, and resiliency. Walking Through The Fire ensures that we emerge on the other side together\, stronger and more unified. \nSultans of String created this project in the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action\, and Final Report that asks for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to work together as an opportunity to show a path forward. Says bandleader Chris McKhool (whose grandfather was a stowaway from Lebanon at the turn of the last century)\, “We know that as a society we can’t move ahead without acknowledging and reflecting on the past. Before reconciliation can occur\, the full truth of the Indigenous experience in this country needs to be told\, so we’ve been calling on Indigenous artists to share with us their stories\, their experience\, and their lives\, so we settler Canadians can continue our learning about the history of genocide\, residential schools\, and of inter-generational impacts of colonization.” \n“The place that we have to start is with truth. Reconciliation will come sometime way in the future\, perhaps\, but right now\, truth is where we need to begin the journey with each other. As human beings\, we have to acquire that truth”- Dr. Duke Redbird – Chippewa/Anishinaabe Elder and poet \nPREVIOUS FILM AWARDS WON: Cannes World Film Festival Best\, Istanbul Film Festival\, Vancouver Independent Film Festival\, Lightbox International Film Festival\, Boston Independent Film Awards\, LA Independent Film Channel Festival\, Hollywood International Golden Age Festival\, Scarab Short Film Festival

SUMMARY:Vernissage: Mona Turner - Recent Works
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of an exhibition by Rigaud painter Mona Turner\, whose evocative paintings explore what it feels like to be within the landscape—not just observing it. Admission is free. \nLiving in a rural setting and spending time listening closely to the natural world\, Turner draws inspiration from the layered lives and energies that surround us: birds in motion\, everyday objects displaced from their usual contexts\, and moments that feel at once familiar and quietly mysterious. Her work invites us to slow down\, to notice\, and to reflect on how we inhabit our own environments. \nThrough figurative painting that sometimes blends elements of still life and landscape\, Turner creates scenes that hover between the recognizable and the implausible. This tension—between illusion and surface\, meaning and ambiguity—opens space for personal interpretation and contemplation. \nBorn in Métis Beach\, Québec\, Mona Turner studied graphic design at Dawson College and Studio Arts at Concordia University\, where she earned a BFA with distinction (1995). She exhibits regularly in the Montreal and Ottawa regions and has been actively involved in the local arts community\, including serving on the executive committees of Artistes Hudson Artists and the Hudson & Region Studio Tour. She is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists. \nAll are welcome. Come meet the artist\, enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the Hub\, and experience a body of work that offers a quiet meditation on presence\, perception\, and the beauty of the ephemeral.
