TITLE OF TALK:  Biophilia and Biodiversity:  The connections between nature and human wellbeing.

DESCRIPTION OF TALK:

Biodiversity, the diversity and variety of species on the planet, is intricately connected to human well-being since plants and animals provide us with clean water and food, and help sustain our planet. We are also a product of our biology and evolution, and our intimate connection to the natural world is called biophilia.  In this talk, Prof. Buddle will discuss biodiversity, biophilia, and the ways that our lives are better because of nature. He will also discuss the preservation and conservation of wild lands in Hudson and beyond, and the importance of awareness and education about the natural world.

Presenter:  CHRISTOPHER BUDDLE, PhD

Professor Christopher Buddle has worked at McGill University since 2002. He is a faculty member in the Department of Natural Resource Sciences at the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Macdonald Campus.  His research and teaching focus has been in ecology and entomology in various habitats, from forests to the high Arctic. He has published close to 100 peer-reviewed papers. He is currently Associate Provost (Teaching and Academic Programs) at McGill. In addition to his academic work, he is deeply committed to science communication, outreach, and the conservation of wild lands.
