ATTENTION!  ATTENTION!  SPECIAL EVENT FOR SPORTS FANS

HOCKEY NIGHT AT THE HUB!

Clint is honored to have as his guests for September two renowned sports personalities and his personal friends, Dick Irvin and George Athans.  This conversation is guaranteed to be an engaging and memorable one.  Although the direction of any of Clint’s “In Conversation with” events cannot be entirely predicted,  you can look forward to hearing about legendary moments and behind-the-scenes anecdotes from Dick’s and George’s lengthy and successful careers in sports and later in the sports media.

Dick Irvin has had a truly remarkable career, having spent decades as a popular broadcaster with Hockey Night in Canada.  He is now retired following a career spanning 1966 to 1999 and is the author of seven books.  In 1988 the Hockey Hall of Fame presented him with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for his contributions to hockey broadcasting.  In 2004 he was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.  He became a Member of the Order of Canada in 2013 for his contributions to hockey as well as for his charitable activities.

George Athans is a four-time world water skiing champion and two-time Western Hemisphere champion (1968 and 1970).  He held the world slalom record for four consecutive years from 1969 – 1972.  George won the Canadian Championship for nine straight years from 1966 and won the US Masters Championship in 1974.  He was voted Canada’s Amateur Athlete of the Year for 1972/73 and BC Athlete of the Year in 1971.  He was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame plus was awarded the Order of Canada in 1974.

Following his retirement from competitive sports, George worked in the TV and production business for more than 40 years.  He was a well-known sports broadcaster with the CBC for 16 years.  He founded Athans Communications, a video production company based in Montreal.

We look forward to welcoming them on September 21st.
