Let’s examine some drawings of the human figure from the Renaissance through the 19th century and investigate strategies for drawing the human form based on these historical examples. We will be inspired by the art of the past to try new things in our drawing practice. Materials provided, or bring your own pencils and paper.

Examinons quelques dessins de la figure humaine de la Renaissance au XIXe siècle et étudions les stratégies pour dessiner la forme humaine sur la base de ces exemples historiques. Nous nous inspirerons de l’art du passé pour essayer de nouvelles choses dans notre pratique du dessin. Matériel fourni, ou apportez vos propres crayons et papier.

Allana M. Benham- Bio

Allana M. Benham is a contemporary figurative artist living and working in Hudson, Quebec and Montreal. Since 2003, she has co-directed Atelier de Brésoles with her husband Eric Mannella. In 2015, she published the first English translation of Dr. Paul Richer’s book New Artistic Anatomy: Female Morphology. She has an MFA from the New York Academy of Art and a BA in Museum Studies from Brown University, and studied landscape painting at the Florence Academy of Art. While at Brown University, she prepared a catalogue of the Minassian Collection of Persian, Islamic, and Mughal miniature paintings. She is a specialist in artistic anatomy and has led courses at Ubisoft and Syn Studio and lectured at the Academy of Realist Art, Boston and the Sadie Valeri Atelier in San Francisco.  Allana Benham is related to Jane Benham Hay (1829-1905). She paints in oil, draws with a variety of media, and makes drypoint monoprints. She is hard at work on her next artistic and literary endeavors.

Allana M. Benham est une artiste figurative contemporaine vivant et travaillant à Hudson, Québec et à Montréal. Depuis 2003, elle codirige l’Atelier de Brésoles avec son mari Eric Mannella. En 2015, elle a publié la première traduction anglaise du livre du Dr Paul Richer, New Artistic Anatomy: Female Morphology. Elle est titulaire d’un MFA de la New York Academy of Art et d’un BA en études muséales de la Brown University, et a étudié la peinture de paysage à la Florence Academy of Art. À l’Université Brown, elle a préparé un catalogue de la collection Minassian de peintures miniatures persanes, islamiques et mogholes. Elle est spécialiste de l’anatomie artistique et a dirigé des cours à Ubisoft et Syn Studio et a donné des conférences à l’Academy of Realist Art de Boston et au Sadie Valeri Atelier de San Francisco. Allana Benham est apparentée à Jane Benham Hay (1829-1905). Elle peint à l’huile, dessine avec une variété de supports et réalise des monoprints à la pointe sèche.
