We are honored to welcome a highly knowledgeable guest speaker, Paula Meijerink. 

Brenda O’Farrell will moderate the presentation.

Paula Meijerink is a Landscape Architect and Associate Professor at The Ohio State University’s Knowlton School. She received her ING degree from Larenstein University in the Netherlands, studied philosophy at the University of Utrecht, and received her Master’s degree with merit in Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Much of her work relates to the transformation of impervious surfaces such as asphalt, and she investigates urban forests as the discipline’s most effective means to address climate change while improving the health and wellness of people.

She has lectured, exhibited, and published nationally and internationally. Trees for All People was selected at the Green New Deal Superstudio aired nationally, and was exhibited at the National Building Museum in Washington DC. Trees for All People received recognition as a Program of Excellence in Engaged Scholarship and Paula Meijerink received the 2024 Community Engaged Scholar Award, both from The Ohio State University.

Brenda  O’Farrell is well known in our community as Editor-in-Chief of the 1019 Report and the 1510 West covering Montreal’s West Island.  Many of us have read and appreciated her many thoughtful and informative articles about the proposed Sandy Beach Project.

She is a former senior news editor with the Montreal Gazette, where she held the titles of Sunday Editor, Special Sections Editor, and National Editor, where she worked with political reporters across the country.

She has taught journalism at Concordia University and received the Quebec National Assembly Medal of Honour.
